Happy Sunday! It is another fine day in America, as we approach Thanksgiving, another in a long line of holidays that the left rails against even as they eat turkey with all the fixin’s. Hey, you don’t expect them to actually practice what they preach, do you?
What is happening on ye olde feedreader?
There was actually a ton more on ye olde feedreader, too. Sorry if I missed anyone. Now, Go Giants!
Also, Martin Brodeur has won his 500th game, only the second one to do it. He should be able to break Patrick Roy’s wins record next season. I am trying to get video of one of Marty’s saves, quite possibly the save of the year.

Run for the hill, run for the hills!
An analysis of satellite imagery of the Gulf Coast shows that Hurricane Katrina destroyed an estimated 320 million trees in Mississippi and Louisiana, an unprecedented loss of forestland that will reshape the region for generations, Louisiana researchers reported today.
The death of the trees from wind damage and soaking in saltwater will ultimately release about 367 million tons of carbon dioxide as they decompose — about the same amount that is absorbed by all U.S. forests in a year, according to the study published in the journal Science.
Considered on the vast scale of global climate change, Katrina’s impact is small. But as a one-time event, its infusion of carbon is significant, exceeding an entire season’s worth of emissions from U.S. forest fires.
Hmm, let’s see. A hurricane, which is a natural occurrence, killed lots of trees. Of course, we all know that this is Man’s fault, preferably one man, because the climahysterics feelit. Hurricanes have never destroyed large patches of forests before Jan 20, 2001, you know. Hurricanes like Fran (1996) never destroyed large swaths from Wilmington, NC, up in to Virginia. Andrew never whacked the palms across Florida. Hugo never too out the trees in South Carolina. Nope, never happened.
All in all, it is a shame that all those trees were destroyed, and replanting them should be a priority, but this does inadvertently take a shot at carbon offsets
Most of the lost trees in the Gulf region stood 70 to 100 feet tall, and others will not grow back for decades, if ever, experts said.
All those suckers buying offsets need to realize that the trees that are (supposedly) being planted will take decades to be a viable source of carbon delimitation. The suckers do no really care, though. They are just buying them to feel good, so as they can continue bloviating about man made global warming will changing their lifestyles nary a wit.

Epitomizing the phrase “bleeding heart liberal” (New York Times)
Federal immigration agents were searching a house in Ohio last month when they found a young Honduran woman nursing her baby.
The woman, Saída Umanzor, is an illegal immigrant and was taken to jail to await deportation. Her 9-month-old daughter, Brittney Bejarano, who was born in the United States and is a citizen, was put in the care of social workers.
The decision to separate a mother from her breast-feeding child drew strong denunciations from Hispanic and women’s health groups. Last week, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency rushed to issue new guidelines on the detention of nursing mothers, allowing them to be released unless they pose a national security risk.
The case exposes a recurring quandary for immigration authorities as an increasing number of American-born children of illegal immigrants become caught up in deportation operations. With the Bush administration stepping up enforcement, the immigration agency has been left scrambling to devise procedures to deal with children who, by law, do not fall under its jurisdiction because they are citizens.
Anyone got a tissue? But, wait a moment, how did this get in this New York Times story?
“We are faced with these sorts of situations frequently, where a large number of individuals come illegally or overstay and have children in the United States,” said Kelly A. Nantel, a spokeswoman for the agency. “Unfortunately, the parents are putting their children in these difficult situations.”
And that is the crux of the matter. Whether illegals are having babies on purpose in order to attempt to remain in the country-I bet the abortion on demand is upset with them for that!-the fact remains that they are having them, the bleeding heart liberals are buying in to this, and, lo and behold, the federal officials have come out with new guidelines on treating these mothers, and will determine, along with a social worker (read liberal) on whether or not they should be released while awaiting deportation. At which point, they will either be released, or search for some sanctuary. Or perhaps get one of the illegal immigrant protection groups to use legal proceedings.
About two-thirds of the children of the illegal immigrants detained in immigration raids in the past year were born in the United States, according to a study by the National Council of La Raza and the Urban Institute, groups that have pushed for gentler deportation policies for immigrant families.
That does give rise to the notion that they are doing it on purpose. I wonder how much time and money they are taking in our medical facilities? Regardless, why should the family be treated any different then singles? Furthermore, why should they be treated any different then if a U.S. citizen is sent to jail, being seperated from their families?
The baby was born in January in Oregon, where Ms. Umanzor’s husband, also Honduran and an illegal immigrant, was working in a saw mill.
Through a quick records check during the raid, the immigration agents discovered a July 2006 order of deportation for Ms. Umanzor, who had failed to appear for a court date after she was caught crossing a Texas border river illegally.
So, she stayed, and, depending on the timing, was either massively pregnant at the time she was caught, or became pregnant. I wonder why.
“Just thinking that I was going to leave my little girl, I began to feel sick,” Ms. Umanzor said of the baby. “I had a pain in my heart.”
Take them with yourself and your illegal immigrant husband. You can do that, you know.
As a sidebar, I have mentioned many times that it seems as if stories that really aren’t completely ultra-leftists end up in the Times on Saturdays. This story does give a somewhat balanced viewpoint, and is rather good reporting, especially as the parts about illegals taking responsibility are throughout the article, including the 4th paragraph. I still say the Times’ editors are tying a good one on after work on Friday’s, so honest reporting slips through.

Johnny Sutton’s star witness
An admitted Mexican smuggler faces federal drug charges more than two years after being shot by a pair of U.S. Border Patrol agents who were later convicted in the shooting, authorities said.
Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, who was shot in the buttocks in February 2005 after fleeing from border agents during a smuggling attempt, has been indicted on charges of smuggling marijuana in September and October of that year, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said Thursday.
Aldrete is to appear Friday in federal court.
He was arrested Thursday at an El Paso border crossing on charges of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, conspiracy to import a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
This is the kind of person that the federal government uses to put Border Patrol agents in jail. He was already under investigation by the DEA, as well.
If you haven’t signed the petion yet, why not?
PS: according to Grassfire.org, Ramos and Compean will have an appeal hearing on December 3rd. Cross your fingers.

Today’s illegal immigration sob story, via the Raleigh News And Observer
Some illegal immigrants in North Carolina are being deported after being jailed for traffic violations.
Opponents of the program to screen jail inmates’ immigration status say deportations after traffic arrests hurt people who are basically law-abiding and productive. Supporters, however, say that the immigrants are being held to the same standards as citizens and that deportation is a just consequence of being in the country illegally.
Mecklenburg, Alamance, Cabarrus and Gaston counties participate in the program, in which local jailers find illegal immigrants already in custody and cooperate with federal officials to deport them. Wake County commissioners designated more than $600,000 last week to bring the program to Wake County in the next six months.
Sniffle.
But Antonio Vasquez, a Charlotte researcher gathering information on the program for the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization, said the programs separate parents and children.
“It’s been pushed because it’s a way to keep criminals away from a community,” Vasquez said. “We really didn’t know anything about the program and how detrimental it would be to families.”
Here is where that thang called “personal responsibility” comes in to play. Do not blame the United States and the established laws for people coming here illegally, with their children and/or having children here, and then being separated because of the laws they broke. Guess what? They can take their kids back to their home countries. Amazing concept!
There are a few more sob stories in the article that I won’t discuss, thou can read it thyself. They are standard “feel bad for the illegals who broke the law because they are just hard working criminals.” To break one down, a mother of 3 got popped for driving without a license
Alamance County Sherrif Johnson said that for every person like Jaimes, his officers also see convicted sex offenders, immigrants charged with robberies and other serious crimes. He has to check everyone who comes into his jail, no matter what they’re charged with.
Besides, Jaimes committed a crime by driving in North Carolina without a license, he said.
“We didn’t put her in that position; she put her in that position and her family in that position,” he said.
Huzzah.
I’m sorry that they are being separated, however, again, it is their own fault. They broke the law. No one really complains about people being separated from their families when they are sent to jail. The illegals who didn’t do something to earn a stay in the pokey get sent back to where they came from. Why is that so onerous?

Happy Friday to all! It’s that time of the week again! Do you have an interesting post you want to share with everyone? The official Surrender Monkey of the Democratic Party says to do what the Lefties don’t, since they all have the same talking points: link it
For those who cared there was a Democrat debate last nigh….zzzz…… Sorry, it is even boring writing about it. Be that as it may, it showed a bit about what the Democrats are really offering as presidential candidates, particularly Hillary. Let’s see
As the three leading Democratic candidates continued escalating attacks and counterattacks against one another, Nevada issues mostly took a back seat Thursday in the first presidential debate staged in the Silver State.
But Nevadans proved to be a raucous audience, several times stealing the spotlight by heckling the moderator and sometimes booing attacks on U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has a substantial lead in polls of Nevada Democrats.
Ah. Now she has the audience protecting her. Of the three major contenders, Obama is the only one who seems capable of dealing with the attacks on his own. Edwards has his wife. And Hillary, well, has everyone else. Yes, she can do some herself, but, this is a woman who has wanted to be president, and has worked towards that moment, for decades. And she needs tons of people to protect her. Could it have anything to do with her being unable to answer unscripted questions?
“This pantsuit, it’s made of asbestos,” Clinton said, when asked by Campbell Brown of CNN about criticisms by her opponents that she is unable to give firm answers to important policy questions.
I like the way Michael Sherer at Salon put it better
7 minutes. Finally, the debate begins. Clinton is asked why she was so lame during the last debate. Does she represent “the politics of parsing,” as one of her opponents charges? Clinton is expecting this. She pulls out a wardrobe joke. “This pantsuit,” she says about the static tweed. “It’s asbestos tonight.” The laughter allows Clinton to duck the question.
That is the Democrat front runner: someone who cannot answer questions. George Bush may not be the best speaker, but, at least he gives the questions a shot. Even about zombies.
The heckling and boo-ing of anyone who attacked Clinton continued. Sherer is wondering, perhaps rightly, if they are Clinton plants, and seriously seems to be considering that there should be an investigation. They also went after Wolf Blitzer of the Clinton News Network, including for giving the other candidates vary limited time to talk. No biggie, since there was little of substance, anyhow.
Check out Michelle Malkin for her take on the debates, plus a slew of TB’s from others.
Update: Not mentioned in this post was the question asked of Hillary by UNLV student Maria Luisa “do you prefer diamonds or pearls?” And now we find out that she wrote on her My Space page that CNN told her to ask that type of question, rather then the one she wanted to ask about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste depository (which should have been opened about a decade ago), via Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic.
I guess Hillary doesn’t need to plant question: CNN will do it themselves. Of course, you know CNN will not be embarrassed.
See Memeorandum for tons of discussion.

Usually, according to the Uniform Code of Blogosphere Conduct Manual, information like this is supposed to be added to a previous post if it is the same day, except, per Section II, Paragraph 4(c), whereby “certain extra information pertaining to an earlier post may used in a stand alone post if it is Level 2 or higher importance (see Appendix 3(g))”.
Therefore, per the Manual, I have literary license to post this information on H.R. 4156, The Orderly and Responsible Iraq Redeployment Appropriations Act, 2008 (Introduced in House) (I picked up on this from a fax Duncan Hunter sent to Rush)
Title I, Section Sec. 104. (a) The Congress finds that United States military units should not enter into combat unless they are fully capable of performing their assigned mission. The Congress further finds that this is the policy of the Department of Defense.
(b) None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used to deploy any unit of the Armed Forces to Iraq unless the President has certified in writing to the Committees on Appropriations and the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives at least 15 days in advance of the deployment that the unit is `fully mission capable’.
Got that? If an F/A 18 from a carrier group in the Med wants needs to fly in to Iraq to protect the troops, they have to have foreknowledge 15 days in advance. If helicopters operating out of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or the Persian Gulf need to provide tactical or medical missions, 15 day waiting period. Use your imagination to realize the danger of this. If there was a nuclear weapon in Iraq, and the best unit to deal with it was out of country, they would have to wait 15 days.
(d) gives the President the ability to waive the 15 days if it is vitally necessary, but he would still have to submit it in writing to Congress first. Which would take time.
Title I, Sec. 105. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act are available immediately for obligation to plan and execute a safe and orderly redeployment of United States Armed Forces from Iraq.
Despite the talk about this Act leaving forces for anti-terror and training activities, it would be very limited and micromanaged by Congress. You thought Vietnam was micromanaged by the Johnson and Nixon admins? You ain’t seen nuttin’ yet!
Furthermore, the Act specifically sets forth that the U.S. needs to conduct high level talks with Iraq’s neighbors, which means, without specifically stating their names, Syria and Iran.
But, no, Democrats don’t want to retreat or anything like that.
PS: you may need to go to Thomas and search 4156. Sometimes, the data returned is temporary.
