MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa - In John Edwards' America, no issue matters so much as the fight between you and the system.

Speaking this weekend to a crowd of roughly 150 mostly elderly Iowans in the Charles City (pop. 7,812) town library, Edwards tied every one of the Democrats' bread and butter issues to a singular idea—"This system is corrupt. And it's rigged. And it's rigged against you."

"There are huge issues facing America," the former senator said, standing in front of a massive American flag and a smaller Iowa state flag. "We have a dysfunctional health care system, desperately needs reform. We have huge issues with social security. The prescription drug law under Medicare. We've got issues with protecting our planet from global warming. Extraordinary economic inequality." Here he pauses, then speaks slowly, his southern drawl becoming more pronounced with each syllable. "But whatever the positions of the candidates on these issues, I want to make it very clear where I stand. I don't think we can change these things unless we do something to change this system."

In packaging his stump speech this way, Edwards passes on the opportunity to feed his audiences the red meat that conventional wisdom and the polls suggest they want. He doesn't discuss Iraq for longer than a few sentences. He hits the Bush administration for its warmongering on Iran, but only as an addendum.

He doesn't even describe the details of his universal health insurance plan. Instead, standing in jeans and a blue sport coat, he asks attendees why they think America doesn't already have such a plan. "Drug companies, insurance companies, and their lobbyists in Washington DC," he says. "It's that simple. Really."

Every other ill is tied to the system as well. The prescription drug law, Blackwater, crippling student loans, social security, the pathetic rebuilding of New Orleans—"nothing will happen until we change this corrupt system."

The system isn't George Bush's doing, so a change-the-party solution won't suffice. At each stop, Edwards repeats, "Do you really believe that if we replace a crowd of corporate Republicans with a crowd of corporate Democrats that anything meaningful is going to change?"

And by corporate Democrat, he means only one of his rivals.

In his second appearance of the day at the town civic center in Waverly (pop. 8,968; flag count: one giant and two large American flags), Edwards offered this, "The presidential candidate who has raised the most money from Washington lobbyists is not a Republican. It's a Democrat. The candidate who has raised the most money from the health industry—insurance companies and drug companies—is not a Republican. It is a Democrat…. And the candidate who has raised the most money from the defense industry, is not a Republican. It is a Democrat. And all those descriptions fit the same candidate. They're all Senator Clinton."

That's the dominant angle of attack Edwards uses on the Democratic frontrunner, who's recent stumbles perhaps emboldens him to continue on the offensive. It isn't the attack du jour—that Clinton equivocates and speaks out of both sides of her mouth, the latest example coming in last week's debate when she voiced approval for a plan for driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, only to pivot moments later when she said she doesn't support such a plan. Though his campaign released a video attacking Clinton for what it called "The Politics of Parsing," Edwards uttered only one sentence on the incident in his three events Saturday—"You can't answer a yes or no question, yes and no." Instead, the attack is that Clinton is complicit in a "rotten" system.

The charge is a legitimate one. According to opensecrets.org only $20 of the more than $30 million Edwards has raised has come from Political Action Committees (PACs), and lobbyists, as an industry, aren't in the top 20 industries donating to his campaign. On the other hand, Clinton has received roughly $750,000 from PACs and more than $500,000 from lobbyists. But the charge is also an inevitable one. There is so little that distinguishes the leading Democratic candidates on the issues that attacks on political maneuvering are the only attacks possible. All three, Edwards, Clinton, and Barack Obama, support universal health care, comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship, rebuilding America's reputation overseas, and ending the war in Iraq. The struggle to convince voters that, when all candidates more or less present the same platform, they ought not go with the one with the most experience, requires a campaign that bemoans politics as usual and chides those who perpetuate it.

This rhetoric also makes it feel like Edwards is playing doubles with Obama. The senator from Illinois is famously running a campaign that indicts the system in Washington. Though Obama decries partisanship far more frequently than Edwards, he has said repeatedly that Americans feel politics is an "insiders' game." He wants to "challenge the status quo and get results." It is a different message than Edwards' on the margins, but is substantially similar.

On his Saturday stops, the third at the University of Northern Iowa, Edwards spoke charitably of Obama, echoing his message of hope. "You have the ability to help create change," he tells his audiences. Edwards poses the "great moral test of our generation" this way: "Will we get the power in this democracy out of the hands of the few, and the rich, and the powerful, and will we put it back your hands?" Yes, he says. "We can do it."

Good for John Edwards. I've been concerned for a long time about Hillary's sell-out. I'm eager for someone to really represent what people need, someone who's willing to address gross economic inequality and weakening social support systems. Yes it's become an insider's game and Americans are sick of it. Maybe Edwards is the one. More power to him for speaking out.

I've already written her off...I don't want a Pandidate, I'd rather see someone apply for the job that isn't afraid to print off a copy of the Consitushoner and use it as a talking point page, instead of folding it into a paper airplane with DynCorp written on it or something. Maybe the slogan for this election should be 'back to basics' or 'cut the crap', or 'no corporate sponsorship' or something...

For the first time in the history of America. The life expectancy of today's children is less than that of their parents. This is catastrophic. And our infant mortality is equal to that of a third world country. Current U.S. adult life expectancy is down from #1 to #42. And dropping fast. These facts are what is known as EXTINCTION! indicators. These are the early signs of the final phase of the EXTINCTION of the American people. You have to take the profit motive out of health care delivery. The profit motive does not work with health care. Or any other essential public service like police, and fire. The sooner everyone faces this truth. The sooner you will be able to adopt a real solution to the problem. The days of paying for health care out of pocket are at an end. Just like the mob days of paying for protection out of pocket came to an end. HR 676 is the way to go. Single payer Universal National Health Care For All. Medicare for all. Accept no substitutes. The sooner you face this. The sooner you begin to heal the Cancer of private for profit medicine that is destroying this entire society. Other developed countries realized this years ago. It's a no-brainer now. See sickocure.org Money, greed, and the profit motive has just decimated health care in America. And killed, and injured millions needlessly. Just for profit. But that is what large amounts of money, greed, and a lust for power always does. No one is immune from this corrupting power. The smart ones know this. And avoid letting them-self be put in compromising positions. But that is easier said. Than done. And very few succeed. Most in the US go into medicine primarily to become wealthy. That is who the medical schools mostly choose. Most of the medical schools faculty are in bed with the drug companies, and others. And like the story of Dr. Faustus. They end up selling their soles. One compromise at a time. Until Lucifer owns them. In medicine. Compromised care means. Injury, disability, and death. It's sad really. But HR 676 can fix this disgrace. Like it has in other developed countries. The only question is. How many more millions will be hurt, injured, and killed. And how many more of your children will die before their time. Before we fix this disgrace of private for profit health care in America. I realize there will be a few people that have what they believe is good health care coverage. Who will want to opt out of a single payer system like HR 676. But let me remind you we rank # 37 in quality of health care for all. Down from #1. Never the less. A few opting out is not a problem. As long as all other Americans are automatically covered at birth through life. Unless they choose to opt out of HR 676. The government takes out 1.4% from your paycheck now for Medicare. All they have to do is substitute for HR 676 what they now take out of your paychecks for private health insurance. Remember, we already spend more on health care than any other country in the world. Right Now. We are being ripped off. And raped. The SCHIP program is a desperately needed program for Americas children. But with the impending EXTINCTION of Americas children. And their current catastrophic health care condition. SCHIP needs to be extended to cover all of Americas children, immediately. Parents should have no hesitations, or financial worries about seeking medical care for their children. Whenever they have any concerns about their children's health. Especially in the richest country in the world. I would submit that any President, or politician that fails to do this for the children. Betrays their most solemn oath to protect the American people. Especially when you consider that all other developed countries have done this. And that we are the richest country in the world. So get on it America. Get it done. You have been doing great over the past several months. Keep it up. And step it up. You have to force it, and take it. It's the right fight, and the right thing to do. Now is the time... Take no prisoners.

Hillary Clinton is a example of the problem we have in government. We can vote for democrat or republican and get the same agenda. When one agenda overrides democracy its corrupts the rule of governing. And the people know its going to be the same old thing again in government. Hoping it doesn't get any worst. New party or will we get the same old thing. until the balance get back to the will of the people, we get back our democracy.

I'm not sure I'd agree that all three are running on the same platform. "All three, Edwards, Clinton, and Barack Obama, support universal health care, comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship, rebuilding America's reputation overseas, and ending the war in Iraq." Is quite an oversimplification. Sen. clinton has not been able to answer one question or give one policy statement in a clear, definitive manner. John Edwardds has. Sen. Clinton is still defensive about her yes vote on Iraq in 2002, and her yes vote on Kyl/Lieberman leaves grave doubts in my mind that she would be nothing morre than than extention of Bush's foreign policy. In my mind she is beholden to the same corporate influences as George Bush. I don't trust her.

I had breast cancer in 02 and with herbs and other healthy things that I did, I got cured. I also had to send away to another state for some of the medacine that I needed. This sucks when your own country would rather have you die or use harmful meds then let you use the good well kown cures come in.We can't blame the Doctors. If they don't do what they are told they WILL lose there right to care for people. There is just to much money going from one hand to another. To much kissing butt. All three candidates are not running on the same platform. Obama, who is my senator and who has many fine qualities, seems to have a taken an "I'm the Decider" position on trade issues. In spite of the devastation of Illinois' manufactoring base due to free trade agreements, he seems intent on voting for more of them. His main economic advisors are Rubin/Friedman acolytes. I was not too surprised to find out that 49% of Illinois children in public schools are classified as "poor" (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/20922.html). Obama voted for the Oman FTA (Oman uses slave labor) and will vote for the Peru FTA, a deal that is supported by the "Hollywood" unions (AFTRA, AFM, SAG), but is opposed by SEIU and the Teamsters, to name a few. Oxfam has said about this FTA: “The Peru free trade deal will harm thousands of Peru’s small farmers, limit access to affordable new medicines by unduly extending the monopoly rights of the international pharmaceutical industry and will restrict Peru’s ability to regulate foreign investment to ensure it serves national development" (http://www.oxfamamerica.org/n ewsandpublications/press_relea ses/archive2006/press_release.2006-07-27.6089858017) And, of course, the Clintons are notorious for their support of the FTAs, all the while Bill receives millions for speeches before the very corporations that have benefitted from the trade agreements.

News flash! News flash! It takes millions and millions of dollars to run for the office of president. Poor people, and even the average middle class citizens, do not contribute money, or contribute very little. So of course the candidates have to turn to corporate money. About the only power the average citizen has is to watch the money trail and do not support businesses and corporations who support candidates you disapprove of. I will give you a personal example; I want a new GMC vehicle. I will never purchase one from my local dealer because in 2004 he heavily supported Bush and continues to do so. Why, would I give money to a business so they can in turn give it to someone who has wrecked my country? Use your consumer buying power to speak for you. It is the same stupidity we practice as a nation, when we continue to pour money into the Middle East for their oil, thus giving them untold billions to use against us, rather than spend the money here in America developing alternative fuel sources. No one should line the pockets of those who are working against their best interest. It takes a little leg work, but is worth the effort to study the money trail in politics.

It's time to vote for someone with a different perspective in policts. We can't afford to keep granting power to the same people, to the same "Repumocrat" party, to the expensses of the rest. Until now Hillary it's just a "Female Repumocrat" working for the benefits of donnors, lobbysts and friends. We really should take control of our political system, before this ill corrupt "one" party system infects the entire world to benefit themselves, their donnors and their friends. We can change all this mess by voting for someone from a "second" party with different ideas and solutions.

The two-party system is a corporate stooge. To suggest that any candidate can overcome a corrupt system on their own by just not taking money is ridiculously simplistic. Poisoning the democratic debate with accusations about who taking money from whom without discussion of public financing is folly.

I recognize that she is just a part of the Good Old Boys Club. I am not sure she really counts as the first woman running for President. And the thought of the continuation of the Bush/Clinton Dynasty over the past 20 plus years. . It needs to end and let Edwards and Obama make the change we all want. . alternative energy to restore the environment and Power to the People not the corporations.

Or, you all can vote for Dennis Kucinich. He says he will: * end the war in Iraq, * prevent the next war in Iran, * take profit out of health care and give people the protection they deserve through real universal health care, * repeal the Patriot Act, * end the Constitutional abuses by the White House and the Executive Branch, * cancel NAFTA and other trade agreements that wipe out American jobs, * expand educational opportunities, and put millions of Americans to work in a Works Green Administration that makes environmental conscientiousness an economic engine. And I don't have any problem believing he means what he says. About him saying he thinks he's seen a UFO? So what, I think I've seen at least two. And let's not forget the "Beloved Ronald Reagan" TOTALLY believed in UFOs AND astrologers. Kucinich 2008.

I just got a plea for money from Mother Jones. I clicked to give, only to find this bit of fluff and spin - exactly what I don't expect to find in dear MJ. Having been in a dubious partnership with the best "Republican" president we ever had does not, on the face of it, give Hillary Clinton a free ticket to equivocate on important issues, play the "girl" in presidential politics and spin opponents'legitimate questions about her integrity as if these intelligent, committed men were right-wing "swift-boaters." Until the last month of his presidency, Bill Clinton consistently supported policies that damaged the environment, enlarged corporate loopholes, betrayed American labor in favor of Chinese sweat shops, and turned our backs on gay men and women in the military. Why would we not want get some serious answers from a politician with this type of "experience?"

As one who came from humble beginnings and is far better off than his parents generation, I believe in John Edward's message. I believe that he remembers where he came from...I do...and I remember how hard people worked just to get by in life while others benefited from their toil. I believe that he wants to see those people have a chance at a better life. And I agree, replacing a corporate Republican administration with a corporate Democrat administration will not change anything. Only when we attack the root problems, the economic inequality, education, healthcare, energy independence, and repair our image in the World, nothing will change. John Edwards is the voice in the wilderness and we can only hope people will begin to hear his message and support him.

Lots of goood posts here. Clinton is a corporate stooge. As well as Obama and Edwards. Sorry. It's just fact. If you can be a serious front runner you're working with or are part of big money. Remember back to all of the other candidates who made all of these promises. They never came through. Any candidate who is really trying to make the country better for the people will not get the big money backing and therefore not become a frontrunner. It takes money. Over a billion dollars was spent on the last election. This is just how the American aristocracy wants it. An exclusive club where only those with money and power make the decisions. Oh yeah, we can place a vote in the primary and in November for the corporate stooge that has been predetermined for which party you have preference to, but it's still not a choice. In the 360 degree party spectrum, the democractic choice and the republican choice in November are ALWAYS just a few degree apart. And next four years proves that. How about boycotting the election. Don't waste your vote on the stooge of the wealthy owners choice. Of course this will only work if it's done on a massive scale. Imagine the current less than 50% turnout becomes less than 30%. Imagine.

I have felt from the beginning of this campaign that Hillary Clinton was backed by the corporate world and I would never vote for her. I really thought she had fooled the American people, and that we were about to have another 4-8 years of Bush in a dress.I am not so sure now. I hope we elect someone who can give us back the Constitution, end the war in Iraq, and give us back the jobs we had, prior to the greedy coporations sending them overseas. "We the People" can make a difference. We may see ourself alone in this journey back home, but there are a lot of people in this nation that want the same.

For John Edwards to equate the GOP with the Democratic party is a slap in the face to all Democrats. The GOP corporate stooges are in Washington right now and have wreaked havoc on our country and the world solely for the sake of the corporate entity. No other administration, Republican or Democrat has inflicted such injury to international and our own Constitutional law. No other administration has waged a war strictly for the benefit of the mega, global oil corporate entity using our American troops to secure the oil of Iraq for their own. This is an administration which doesn't just court the corporate entity it supports and enhances its fiscal and regulatory positions at the expense of America and the world. Thousands of young American soldiers are dead for corporate oil, tens of thousand more are maimed and permanently injured physically and mentally. But this criminal administration struts before the American people and the world, brandishing our military's might, hypocritically telling the world that this American administration will secure world peace and justice! There is no doubt, as John Edwards states, there is a system which is rotten in this country but its putridity has been exemplified and magnified a thousand times by the Bush administration. This administration should be lecturing from behind the walls of Leavenworth. Now if John Edwards and the rest of the Democrats want to clean up Washington the first and most important thing they have to do is throw out the lobbyist, all of the bribing , thieving and scallywag scoundrels that run and control our country. Then install a computerized system which allows Americans from all walks of life to tell it like it is. From homes and libraries and other sources our “system” would have the voice it really needs to direct our country. How much would it cost? A lot less than another Bush administration or the gaggle of lobbyists.

Predictions of the next 911 by a Professional Geologist. www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist Brief Description: www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant. The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelations”. H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness. The discovery: As a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world's complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions. fgnjrjnm
