Linkin Park

When I was at the begining of my rock-life, I listened to them 24-7ish and were on top of my list back then. Songs like "Don't Stay", "My December" and "Points of Authority" I shall listen with pleasure wherever they may pop into my life. Just that now I am more into Death, Nu, Epic and Classic and I left them in the past.
By true rocker I meant one who listens to rock 24/7 and is exclusively "addicted" to this genre (as I would like to consider myself, although 3-4 years ago I listened to Eminem and 50 Cent...). Also, he should at least pay some respect the true legends, as I like to call them, meaning the 80's bands.
They may have Nu-Metal songs, but this does not make them a predominant Nu-Metal band, like Slipknot or Trivium. In the majority of their songs, I sensed a TechnoRock influence, and a bit of Rapcore here and there. True Nu-Metal bands are exclusive to this genre, with some exceptions of course (like Slipknot with "Vermilion Pt. 2" or "Danger - Keep Away", which I find relaxing songs).
Finally, all that I say is my personal opinion and I shall never think myself greater than any real music critic. In the years I listened to rock/metal, I started to recognize genres, but I only tell people my opinion and never say I am surely right, because there are smarter people than me that are right before me. But at please, try listening to one Slipknot intensive Nu-Metal song, like "(SIC)" or "Before I Forget", and then change to Linkin Park, "Numb" or "Crawling", and then tell me if you have the same feelings...

I absolutely refuse to listen to Slipknot. It's the band I hate the most.
LP plays many genres so saying that they are a nu-metal band isn't a mistake but isn't 100% true either. They have rap, rock, metal, techno, in few words – a lot.
Actually, I just often say that Linkin Park is a rock band because rock has so many sub-genres and LP belongs to quite a few.
Well that's what I think, of course.

Now it is very interesting indeed...I agree that they belong to rock, but don't accept they are metal. As you said, rock has many sub-genres. One of them is Hard Rock, which also has the Heavy Metal subgenre. So the two main genres as you could say are Rock and Metal. Now, metal is something derived from rock, so every metal band can be catogorized as rock to a certain extent. But if a band is rock, could it be metal? This seems to be the misunderstanding. Also, note that all bands choose a certain genre that they mostly hold to, but then start drifting apart with some songs. If Slipknot is not on your liking, try to see the differences in other metal bands, like Nightwish ("Once Upon A Troubadour" -> "Romanticide") or Hammerfall ("Dreams Come True" -> "Crimson Thunder"). Both these bands are Power-Metal oriented, but the differences in these songs are extreme. So you can say one band sings alot of genres, but one stands out. So I agree they have Nu-Metal influences in certain songs, but that's just it. Not simply enough to call them a Nu-Metal band.

SWhisssperBut if a band is rock, could it be metal?
"Heavy metal is a genre of rock music".
Metal is still rock so yes, of course. How can metal be a main genre next to rock when it's origin is Hard rock and hard rock is rock's sub-genre?
I don't think that LP drifts away with certain songs, the difference between the whole albums is pretty big.

...No...it seems there is some misunderstanding again...So to clear everything up:
Rock, along with many subgenres, has Hard Rock as a subgenre. Hard Rock slowly became a major genre, kinda stand-alone (almost no one today gives a damn about Elvis or The Beatles...in young peoples' case I mean). Next, it developed many subgenres, including Heavy Metal, which became another major genre, so as to say. This is kinda my whole idea. I, for one, say I listen to rock, for everyone to understand, even when listening to Opeth or Children of Bodom. But of course, these are Progresive Doom and Power - Heavy Metal (not really sure about this...), so they clearely have to go throufgh rock to achieve this. But Scorpions for example...damned I shall be of even thinking they have any similarity to metal...
Ok now...back to Linkin Park. It is imensely hard, if not impossible, to exactly categorize each band, and really impossible to hold to a genre you chose. Because there are very thin lines between these many genres. So, I for one, try to see similarities between songs, and based on those similarities I try to categorize bands. Now, if Linkin Park wanted a more violent TechnoRock, they drifted a bit in the Nu-Metal genre, but still, I find Techno influences be the most common seen. Even between albums... A clear example would be "Don't Stay", with screaming-like vocals and hard guitars. Now this I find very similar with Nu-Metal, but can still spot the Techno influences. Now, based on this I made my opinion that Linkin Park is TechnoRock, even with similarities on some songs to Nu-Metal.
Now...It's 23.22 in my country and has been a hard day for me...so going to the DreamWorld...it was nice analyzing with you, and maybe we'll continue this tomorrow (mine and yours that is...same place same time).
EDIT: Now that I read it again, seems I'm already in my DreamWorld...so very sorry if I talked nonsense..I promise tomorrow I'll be fresh awake :).

While LP does have a DJ I wouldn't really add techno when talking about them (I honestly can't make myself), generally people categorize them as raprock >_> Like I said before, I just say that they play rock music, it saves me from all the sub-genres.
I have Scorpions under classic rock since they are... well you know, the awesome, like living legends.
When I started listening to rock I couldn't believe that bands like Metallica and The Beatles are both playing rock music. They are so different. Metallica is heavy while The Beatles are poppy/soft. Once in a while I really dislike how many sub-genres rock has.
P.s. our countries aren't very far apart ;)

Just got back from school, just ate, drank some Pepsi and now I'm ready for more commenting, under the calming sounds of Vangelis - Chariots of Fire :D.
Well...RapRock is very appropriate, but it's rap just because of the vocals. Because, like come on, Eminem vs Linkin Park? No chance... Also, I completely agree with you...they still sing rock, without further ado (but I still won't like Glam Rock...).
For me, Scorpions beats Guns N' Roses or Van Halen (ACDC, Maiden and Metallica are different genres, so better not...). Right now, I mostly listen to them, with some Trivium or DragonForce escapades ^^. Also, the variety of genres is to comfort you mainly. Just to know how to pick the bands you listen to. Yesterday, I found Nevermore, an Opeth-like band, with the Progressive Doom tag. It was this mainly that I oriented my search on. So it kinda helps me find more bands I would like to listen to. Although it can get messy sometimes...
P.S.: Metallica initially started as Hard Rock, but on Wikipedia, they categorize it as Thrash Metal starters...and of course, The Beatles are the fore-fathers of Rock, with Elvis on their side (or vice-versa :P).
P.P.S.: Yup...you are right :). I just saw that now. We're in the same timezone, GMT+2, right?

That's true.
I think Linkin Park is cool but some Songs sounds the same.
I don't think it's possible for a band to create totally different songs.
