With filming to begin in September for Half-Blood Prince the casting rumors are starting to flow in.
First off, it's is assumed at this point that David Yates will continue on for another film as director. This has not yet been officially confirmed by WB, but I don't know who else it could be at this point. On all the previous films, the director was announced at least a year before principle shooting began. Steve Kloves will return as screenwriter as has been known for quite a while now. All three of the trio have been confirmed for the last two films and I assume all the current actors will be continuing in their respective roles. So now onto the rumors! Jack Davenport is being rumored for Tom Riddle (Young adult Riddle?) Stephen Rea is rumored for muggle Prime Minister (though I could see Rea as a good Scrimgeour as well.) and Naomi Watts as Narcissa Malfoy! |

Wow, I never thought of Naomi Watts as Narcissa before... but... I can see it.
We'd have ourselves a very hot Cissy in the house. |

The site I got this info from - Snitch.co.uk, has updated their info and added an additional actor being considered for a role -
Peter Rnic, who apparently filled in as the double for "Mad-Eye Moody" in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. They also edit to state "Possible roles that [the actors] might fill in the sixth film are "Tom Riddle", the muggle Prime Minister, "Fenrir Greyback", "Rufus Scrimgeour", "Professor Slughorn" and "Narcissa Malfoy". " I agree about Watts as Narcissa, Beri. I never thought of her for the role, but when I saw her name it just clicked. And I've always imagined Narcissa as kinda 'steaming' anyway. There's an open casting call for Lavender Brown and young Tom Riddle that will take place in London in the upcoming weeks.
In an interview with MTV, David Yates explains the approach he will take for the casting of Lavender. QUOTE "You know what I'm going to do?" Yates said. "I never did this before, but I'm going to get Rupert together with the top five Lavenders, get him to come and read with them and snog with them. It's a chemical thing, and you want to feel that chemistry between them. That will help me decide." "Really?" Grint asked — since this was news to him. "Oh, wow, I didn't realize that. That's going to be interesting. It's going to be embarrassing." Also confirmed in the article is that the role of Tom Riddle will not be performed at all by previous actor Christian Coulson. David Yates says QUOTE "I think Christian's a brilliant actor, and I thought it was a terrific piece of casting, but he's too old now," Yates said. ... "What I want is that equality of spirit," Yates said. "Someone who is odd, charismatic, cool, has a quite cold spirit which Voldemort embodies. If I find that, that's the most important thing."

Here's a shot from the open casting call for Lavender Brown which drew 7000 girls. You can see more shots of the event here.
According to Veritaserum.com who was present at the event, the girls waited in line for hours before being seen by two Harry Potter casting directors in groups of 30. They said their name, age, and an interesting fact about themselves while holding up a large whiteboard with their name written on it. Some groups were dismissed entirely, while one or two girls in other groups were asked to proceed to the next round. At the next round, the girls read from a scene with Hermione, Madam Pomfrey, and Lavender (presumably after Ron's near-death experience in Slughorn's office) from the Half-Blood Prince script for about a minute. There were no further rounds at today's auditions. Those few girls who will make it to the third round of call backs will find out within the next two to three days. The Harry Potter casting directors will likely pick a Lavender within the next one to two months and will reveal their choice soon after. |

I hope the guy with the guitar on the cell phone in that photo makes it. He'd be an awesome Lavender!

It's interesting that they are not casting according to skin colour, apparently. Is it ever mentioned anywhere in the books that Lavender is Caucasian?

I don't have a copy of SS, or I would check the sorting hat scene to see if Lavender gets a mention -- she comes so near the begining of the alphabet.
Wonder if they let guitar man play anything? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) |

Hahaha, I bet you the thing that was on all their minds was what Yates said about snogging Grint as part of the audition process. Looks like 80% didn't make it to first base!

Yeah, I can see the lust in the guitar-guy's eyes, you know...
ETA: Could anyone drug Yates into re-casting Lupin with Ewan McGregor, please? |
