5 More Books Search Marketers Should Read
Posted by shor on Sun (11/4/07) at 01:19 AM to Books & Guides
Marty McFly: "Whoa, this is heavy. " Doc Brown: "There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?" Wouldn't we all like to predict the future? Or at least be ahead of the marketing curve?8 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -

Hey Gang, Rand's off at SMX Stockholm, so you all get the Divine Miss Kelley in some hot Whiteboard action this week. Rebecca and Jeff have been working with Carlos del Rio, second place finisher in the SEOmoz Landin Page Contest, from New Media Northwest to work on some of the SEOmoz Landing Pages. In this week's ...17 thumbs up, 1 thumbs down -
Should You Optimize Your Site For Each Individual Search Engine?
Posted by rebecca on Thu (11/1/07) at 05:27 PM to Miscellaneous
I was reading through Search Engine Land today (as I do every day--kissuptodannykissuptodanny) and came across the following blurb in Stoney deGeyter's 10 Useless SEO Worries post: Don't think that you need to optimize a page for each search engine. It doesn't work that way. Just do good optimization and all eng...17 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -

Posted by rebecca on Wed (10/31/07) at 04:20 PM to Business Tactics
Happy Halloween, everyone! We here at SEOmoz are all dressed as internet marketers! Wheee! Did you adequately prepare for the holiday? Have your costume picked out and ready to go? Pumpkins carved into spooky jack-o-lanterns? Decorations put up? Candy purchased (none of those healthy granola bars, or your house'll get egged)? Site optimized for all that lovely holiday traffic? No? Uh oh... ...22 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -
Please Stop Spamming Me for Votes
Posted by rebecca on Tue (10/30/07) at 01:37 PM to Social Media
Let me walk you through my morning thus far. I came into the office, logged on to Trillian, and started working. I received an IM from an SEO who made some small talk before getting to the point: he wanted me to digg/reddit about four stories. I clicked on the links and (pay attention here) voted for the ones I thought were interesting. I keep working. I notice that I get several email no...71 thumbs up, 2 thumbs down -
Recently, I made the difficult decision to change the domain name of my blog and consulting website. It had to be done; the old name just didn't make sense anymore, no one could spell it, and it was terrible for SEO. Of course, I knew all of the rules of successful 301 redirection, in theory, but when it came to putting theory into practice, I found myself dreading pulling the switch....37 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down

Odds and Ends at the End of October
Posted by rebecca on Mon (10/29/07) at 04:13 PM to Roundups & Recaps
To cap off this gray, dreary Monday (in Seattle, anyway), I thought I'd share a hodgepodge of news, tidbits, and other things that have been brought to my attention by bloggers and colleagues lately: Kris Farmer from RazorGator won Greg Boser's SEO Vanity Plate contest, which is uber-lame because I took second place and wa...12 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -
Straight to YouTube: Wetpaint Does Viral Video
Posted by JaneCopland on Mon (10/29/07) at 11:40 AM to Viral Marketing
Seattle-based wiki website Wetpaint have always done things a little differently to most wiki providers. With a highly user-friendly interface, Wetpaint lets even the most technically-uninclined people create websites. The sites, which are of course all wikis, can either be hosted at Wetpaint or on a ...12 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -
Answers to Questions for Rand, Round #1
Posted by randfish on Mon (10/29/07) at 01:22 AM to Miscellaneous
First things first - go watch this video of Amanda Camp explaining her job at Google's Webmaster Central. There's a critical lesson in her 90 seconds on tape that's incredibly revealing. If you listen carefully, what Amanda's saying is, "yes, we read your comments, we read your questions, we look at all your spam reports, but we don'...22 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down -
Whiteboard Friday - Welcome to the Jungle
Posted by randfish on Fri (10/26/07) at 12:55 AM to Multimedia
This week, along with the Whiteboard Friday video, I've also included a pair of informative and hopefully, entertaining, charts. The video discusses why some companies in more conservative sectors or with more traditional ideas about marketing and PR shy away from social media and blog engagement, despite the many benefits those arenas can bring. It's a critique we hear not only from clients, b...21 thumbs up, 1 thumbs down -

Google Toolbar PageRank Losses For Hundreds of Websites
Posted by randfish on Wed (10/24/07) at 12:05 PM to Spamming & Black Hat
This morning brings news from around the web of losses to the Google Toolbar PageRank (the little green pixels displayed in the toolbar) for a myriad of sites. I've gone through many of the threads and tried to pull together an accounting of websites that have been "reportedly" affected by the update. Hopefully, by collecting this data, and combining it with reports in the comments, we c...27 thumbs up, 2 thumbs down -

MSN's site: command is Confusing Me...
Posted by rebecca on Tue (10/23/07) at 11:40 AM to Microsoft
I'm working on a site review for a client, and I was checking to see how well the site was indexed across the major search engines. Normally we do a site: command and skip to the last page of results to get as accurate a count as we can; however, MSN's count is a little puzzling. When I first performed a count, it said the client's site had 180 pages indexed (it's a brand new site). Jumping to the...13 thumbs up, 2 thumbs down
