The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) exchanged heavy artillery fire for nearly 3 hours at Naakarkoayil Front Defence Lines (FDL) in the northern province, Friday morning.

During the exchange, helicopters flew in and out of the SLA base, and shells launched by the LTTE fell inside SLA bases in Naakarkoayil and Manattkaadu, according to sources in the area.

SLA artillery bases in Manattkaadu and adjoining area kept launching shells in support of the attack on LTTE from Naakarkoayil SLA FDL position.
