Pressure mine kills 3 civilians in Ea'raavoor

Three civilians traveling in a tractor lost their lives Friday around 10:30 a.m in a pressure mine explosion in Ea'raavoor police division along Vanthaa'rumoolai-Uppoadai road. Ea'ravoor police recovered the bodies and handed them over to Batticaloa Teaching hospital for post mortem examination and inquest

The three victims were identified as Kathirkamar Thavarasa, 40, of Ee'ra'laku'lam, Krishnapillai Velupillai, 41, of Kaneasa Viththiyaalaya Veethi and Thankarasa Kuhan, 17.

The victims were on a tractor, loaded with sand from Mayilavedduvaan returning to Uppoadai in Vanthaa'rumoolai, when the pressure mine exploded.

The tractor was completely damaged.

Many tractors are usually engaged in transporting sand along Uppoadai road daily.

Vanthaa'rumoolai is located 14 km north of Batticaloa town.
