[TamilNet, Thursday, 06 September 2007, 02:12 GMT]
Four youths aged below 30, from Chavakachcheari Town, Meesaalai, Vara'ni and Madduvil surrendered at the HRC seeking protection from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and SLA-backed paramilitaries Wednesday, HRC officials said. The number of Tamil youths seeking protection at the Jaffna HRC from Thenmaraadchi region in Jaffna district, is on the rise, sources close to the HRC said.

Unidentified vehicles plying in the region during nights have also increased, according to Jaffna residents.

Many youths fear to go to the HRC office as they have to cross a number of checkpoints en route Jaffna city. They believe that they could be arrested at any of the checkpoints.

Meanwhile, the army restrict youths from certain villages in Thenmaraadchi region to move out of the peninsula by denying them the necessary Passes.
