Framework: The Finnish Art Review
- a bi-annual magazine.

Framework: The Finnish Art Review is dedicated to contemporary art and culture, and is published by FRAME, The Finnish Fund for Art Exchange (www.frame-fund.fi).

Framework is a discursive forum that opens a space for a variety of visual material, as well as extensive articles, analyses and international commentaries. One of its major tasks is to assist in establishing Finnish contemporary art on the international scene - to connect the local to the international. It is primarily concerned with visual arts and culture, but will also deal with other art forms and cultural criticism at large. Framework emphasises and supports cross-disciplinary aspects of art that transcend conventional boundaries.

Although the cultural roots of Framework remain in Finland, the project is designed to broaden geographical and cultural horizons, especially to the other Nordic countries, the Baltic States and Russia. This is a vast region, set to undergo profound cultural, societal and political changes in the coming years. From this perspective, the magazine adds an interesting and original northern voice to the international discourse.

The publishing of Framework: The Finnish Art Review is made possible by the support from the Finnish Ministry of Culture. Two issues with a circulation of 4 000 copies are published per year.

Framework: Special Nordic Issue 7 (with a circulation of 5 000 copies) is also supported by Nordisk Kulturfond (Nordic Culture Fund), Suomalais-tanskalainen kulttuurirahasto (Finnish-Danish Culture Fund), and Islantilais-suomalainen kulttuurirahasto (Icelandic-Finnish Culture Fund).

Nationality in Context
This Special Nordic Issue of Framework Magazine explores the contemporary North at the hands of a global context. Different contributors discuss concepts of nationalism, nation-state, trans-nationalism and the us-them - division. The seven artists representing the Nordic Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale, curated by René Block, are featured: Adel Abidin (Finland), Jacob Dahlgren (Sweden), Toril Goksøyr & Camilla Martens (Norway), Sirous Namazi (Sweden), Lars Ramberg (Norway), and Maaria Wirkkala (Finland). The issue also analyses the current art scenes in the Nordic countries, focusing especially on the younger generation of artists that has grown to believe in the idea of a welfare society, but who has been witnessing its gradual deterioration throughout the last decades.

Among the contributors are Cecilia Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden), Jacob Fabricius (Copenhagen, Denmark), Peter Gärdenfors (Stockholm, Sweden), Harald Gaski (Tromsø, Norway), Martin Glaser (Berlin, Germany), Tone Hansen (Oslo, Norway), Yrjö Haila (Tampere, Finland), Trude Iversen (Oslo, Norway), Hanna Johansson (Helsinki, Finland), Agnes Kohlmeyer (Venice, Italy), Andrea Kroksnes (Oslo, Norway), Erik Kruskopf (Helsinki, Finland), Olli Löytty (Tampere, Finland), Laura U. Marks (Vancouver, Canada), Ann-Sofi Noring (Stockholm, Sweden), Gísli Pálsson (Reykjavik, Iceland), Frans Josef Petterson (Stockholm, Sweden), Helena Sederholm (Helsinki, Finland), Ragna Sigurdardóttir (Reykjavík, Iceland), Juha Sihvola (Helsiniki, Finland), Timo Valjakka (Helsinki, Finland).
