Display price list - Jaffna Magistrate orders traders

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 11 September 2007, 04:27 GMT]
Jaffna District Magistrate R. T. Vignarajah, ordered Monday all traders in Jaffna district to display list of prices of the commodities sold in their shops, before 29 September. The magistrate issued this order as there was an acute shortage of essential goods in the open market while they were available in the black market at exorbitant prices.

Residents of Jaffna peninsula, particularly the poor, already burdened with restrictions and extra expenses, are unable to buy essential goods at normal prices, the sources added.

The prices of all commodities went up after the Sri Lanka Army closed the A-9 main supply land route to Jaffna on August 11, 2006.
